Schopenhauer fundamentally characterizes the will as a blind drive, an unfulfilled longing fated to always continue and never be satiated. Today, we will take a brief overview at The World as Will and Idea explore the lofty value Schopenhauer placed on art, and on music specifically list some of the thinkers and artists he has influenced, and conclude with my thoughts on this engaging work of philosophy. For these reasons alone he is remarkable, but even more so are his thoughts on beauty which continue to inspire artists and thinkers alike. He was among the first to provide a moral framework without asserting God as its source, he considered the world fundamentally irrational, and he also was the first to incorporate Eastern (Buddhist) thought into a Western system of philosophy. ![]() Arthur Schopenhauer’s foundational work, The World as Will and Idea, introduced several new concepts to the Western world of philosophy. ![]() 6/29/2023 0 Comments Mating in domesticity![]() ![]() THE STORY OF SEX IN committed modern couples often tells of a dwindling desire and includes a long list of sexual alibis, which claim to explain the inescapable death of eros. ![]() The young ones copulate, hate it, and want to cry.ġ From Adventure to Captivity: Why the Quest for Security Saps Erotic VitalityĢ More Iintimacy, Less Sex: Love Seeks Closeness, but Desire Needs Distanceģ The Pitfalls Of Modern Intimacy: Talk Is Not the Only Avenue to ClosenessĤ Democracy Versus Hot Sex: Desire and Egalitarianism Don’t Play by the Same Rulesĥ Can Do! The Overlook Hotel has been the destination of rich, shady people since it’s inception and by the time full-time alcoholic/on-his-last-chance writer Jack Torrence comes around to be it’s winter caretaker, it’s charged with their energies: the awful, unspeakable emotions that were left behind and whose ghosts now bestow a strong, malevolent force of will upon the hotel.
